betting

The Betting on the tote is very simple. If you buy tickets from us we supply a pad of 100 tickets (serial numbered) and numbered for each horse 1 to 8 or 1 to 10 for each race. The race number is also on these tickets.

You need to organise a table with 4 or 5 people (two per horse) to sell tote tickets. On a big night - 200 or more people, you might need 8-10 people (selling one horse each).

You now need a cashier who will go to the sellers when betting is closed and collect the totals sold on each horse. We provide totalizer sheets for this purpose and when this information is gathered and totalled he needs to wait until the end of the race for the winning horse and the dividend. Usually 60% is given back in payout. Simply divide the amount available by the number of tickets purchased on the winning horse.

A large dividend can encourage the crowd to buy more so give back good value in payouts.

jackpot

A Jackpot can be run of the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th race. We provide printed and perforated tickets which are filled in, in duplicate, forecasting in advance the winning horses in the above numbered races. The prize is usually 50% of the pool and when not won can be carried over to the next race nite.

THE BETTING ALONE DOES NOT BRING IN A LARGE AMOUNT OF PROFIT. YOU CAN EXPECT 700 TO 800 EURO FROM A GATHERING OF APPROX. 100 PEOPLE.

Based on the assumption that €100.00 is bet on every race and you hand back 60% then your profit per race is only €40.00 (€400.00 for 10 races). Now you can see that the profit is in the selling of the horses the sponsors and the advertising.
